American Legion Post #26Sir Knights and their guests attended the Adm. Callaghan Assembly’s annual Christmas Dinner on Dec. 14 at Hodel’s Country Dining. In addition to being the keynote speaker, Faithful Navigator Tony Ransick arranged for a group of Centennial High School students to sing Christmas carols.
Faithful Captain Eric Ruiz, who coordinated the event, served as the master of ceremonies and extolled the virtues of Knights of Columbus founder Fr. Michael McGivney, Army Rear Adm. Daniel J. Raymond Joseph Mish, 99, of Bakersfield, California, passed away on April 3, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.
Ray is survived by son David and wife Karen, son-in-law Don, granddaughter Ainslee, cousin Alan, sister Mary Frances, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife Betty and his daughter Deborah.
Ray started his career in the funeral business at the age of 15, sweeping leaves off the sidewalk for a funeral home. This led to him being brought into the funeral home until the age of 17. He joined the Army and served until injured. He came to California for his education. In 1952, he married his high school sweetheart. In 1960, they opened Mish Funeral Home-Oildale. Later they opened more funeral homes, an ambulance service, and a casket store. He helped form an Honor Guard through the American Legion and had the first volunteer Veteran Honor Guard for Veterans Burial of Kern County.

He was predeceased by his wife Barbara Dutton (Allen). He is survived by his son David Dutton; his granddaughter Ashley; his children, Michelle Marquez (Steve) and Richard Dutton (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Patricia Marquez, Steven Marquez, Kali Ochoa, Kandace Soto, Brittani Dutton and Caitlyn Dutton; and his great grandchildren, Cody Owens, Myleigh Ochoa, Levi O'Brien, Cambria O'Brien, Sucelly Soto and Samuel Soto.

Bakersfield – It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Luciano (Luke) Carrasco, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and devoted partner.
He was born on January 7, 1938, in Midland, Texas. When he was young, the family moved to Shafter, CA.
Luke attended Shafter High School, where he sang in the choir, played saxophone in the band, lettered in Track and graduated in 1957. After graduation, he proudly enlisted in the U.S Marine Corp. He was a member of the US Marine Corps Band and played for the 11th Marine Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps. He also played for a local military Marine band, the Pendleton Playboys, showcasing his musical talents on the drums. He served his country with honor and was honorably discharged in 1960.
In July of 1959 he married Angie, and welcomed four wonderful children into the world. Luke built a successful career as a concrete contractor. After retirement he was recruited as a construction superintendent developing apartment complexes.
A deep man of faith, Luke was a Grand Knight and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, where he contributed tirelessly to the community. He cherished moments spent with his children on weekend trips to Greenhorn Mountain, fishing and camping at Lake San Antonio, and riding three-wheelers together across the sand dunes at Pismo Beach.
Luke was preceded in death by his parents, Patricio and Francisca Carrasco and 12 siblings. He is survived by his four children, Sandra (Bruce), Jennifer (deceased husband John), Teresa, Lucas (Sareen), ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, his brother Moises Carrasco, many nieces and nephews, and his longtime partner, Joan Isom and sons Brian and Jerrell and their families.
Luke leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories that will be forever held close by his family and friends. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
